Awesome news from our friends Jay Draper and the Subterraneans – their full length debut album has been released and is available for your enjoyment.

Really pleased to have played a part in the inception of this project – I was significantly involved in the production of the first track, ‘Belly of the Beast,’ which is what the rest of the album sort of spun out of.

This record has been getting rave reviews already – check out this great track-by-track breakdown from Obscura Undead, a pair of goth vloggers based in Florida:

Major congrats to Jay, Justin and everyone else involved!

Check it out below, let us know what you think in the comments and go and support a great album!

Rise of the Subterraneans https://www.doubleeyelidmusic.com/rise-of-the-subterraneans/ Thu, 04 Jan 2018 06:25:34 +0000 http://www.doubleeyelidmusic.com/?p=911

So … I’m excited to announce that a track I put a fair bit of time into for my good friend Jay Draper of The Scarlet Fever (aka the guest vocalist on ‘She’s Falling’) is finally seeing the light of day, with a release party happening this Friday night in Toronto. I’m thrilled about where Jay and Justin Minister (of Amy’s Arms) have been able to take the track – its form has shifted quite a bit from when I worked on it, but the track has retained enough of the backbone and feel that I helped to give it that I still take some personal pride in this release.

If you’re in Toronto, be sure to come out and join me for the first listen to the debut single by Jay Draper and the Subterraneans – ‘Belly of the Beast’ – along with the b-side, ‘Scatterbrain’.

Event details are here.

UPDATE: The release party was fun, thanks to everyone who braved the -20C temperatures to come out and have fun with us!

Just in time for Christmas … https://www.doubleeyelidmusic.com/just-in-time-for-christmas/ Tue, 19 Dec 2017 05:17:04 +0000 http://www.doubleeyelidmusic.com/?p=887
Just in time for Christmas, my great friend, Double Eyelid producer and collaborator Karl Mohr has decided to give everyone a present by making his classic holiday-themed album ‘Magic Christmas’ available again as a free download.

Celebrating its 15th anniversary in 2017, this is a truly one-of-a-kind album. It’s Karl’s take on a number of Christmas classics, with a few obscurities and some French Canadian content to boot. It’s absolutely bent… yet oddly, stays respectful to the spirit of Christmas throughout.

And for the last 15 years or so, it hasn’t really been Christmas at my house until this album gets played.

Karl originally released this on CD; those are long out of print which I think is a shame – I’ve given a few of them as gifts and they were warmly appreciated. Consider this his gift to you!

The 2017 edition includes a bit of bonus content – 2 cover songs, including a version of Iggy Pop’s Nightclubbing that I (allegedly) played guitar on.

Grab the next soundtrack to your Christmas here:

Download Karl Mohr’s Magic Christmas!

NOTE: The link goes to a zip file, so if you’re on your mobile, this isn’t ‘click and play’ – download the free album to your computer and then open it in iTunes or whatever you use to listen to music.

Want a quick sample? Here’s his version of ‘Frosty the Snowman’:

If you enjoy the album and want to check out more of Karl’s solo stuff, this is where you should go: https://tapelife.bandcamp.com/

And be sure to let us know what you think of ‘Magic Christmas’ in the comments …

Happy holidays everyone!
